Dodecane is used as an internal standard for the gravimetric quantification post gas chromatographic (GC) analysis of the reaction products, which includes the molecules with a single siloxane bond formed by the enzyme-catalyzed in vitro hydrolysis and condensation of alkoxysilanes. It is also used as a standard for the instrument calibration for label-free biomedical imaging of lipids using stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy.
